Visual outcomes similar between enhanced and standard monofocal IOLs in glaucoma study
Enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) provide similar visual outcomes to standard monofocal IOLs in patients with glaucoma, according to a study.
Researchers analyzed data from cataract surgeries performed in 2021 on patients aged 40 and older with glaucoma or suspected glaucoma. Both lens types led to notable improvements in best-corrected visual acuity, visual field index, mean deviation, and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness.
The results suggest that enhanced monofocal IOLs provide a viable option for glaucoma patients, offering similar overall visual benefits as standard lenses, with the potential for improved intermediate vision.
