John D. Gelles

OD, FAAO, FIAOMC, FCLSA, FSLS & FBCLA

Dr. Gelles is the director of the specialty contact lens division of the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute and the CLEI Center for Keratoconus in Teaneck, New Jersey. He is an assistant clinical professor at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and an adjunct clinical professor at the State University of New York College of Optometry, Illinois College of Optometry, and New England College of Optometry.

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Scleral Lens Society, Contact Lens Society of America, British Contact Lens Association, the International Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control, and is a PROSE clinical fellow.

His clinical practice is focused exclusively on specialty contact lenses and the management of keratoconus, corneal disease, ocular surface disease, and post-surgical corneal conditions. He serves as a clinical investigator in various clinical trials related to keratoconus and specialty contact lenses. His research and publications primarily explore keratoconus, innovative contact lens designs, and emerging corneal and refractive procedures.

He is an advisory board member for the Gas Permeable Lens Institute, an advisory board member and the education chair of the International Keratoconus Academy, the education chair of the Intrepid Eye Society, co-chair of Refractive Surgery Alliance collaborative care section, a member of the American Academy of Optometry’s Innovations Council and a former board member of the Contact Lens Society of America.
