Dr. Shannon L. Steinhäuser, OD, MS, FAAO is the owner of Phoenix Eye Care and Dry Eye Center of Arizona, in Phoenix, AZ. Her practice interests include glaucoma management, monitoring patients for ocular complications of systemic disease, as well as scleral lens fitting.
She completed her undergraduate studies at California State University-Fresno majoring in molecular cellular biology and earned her bachelors of visual science and Doctor of Optometry degrees from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1997 and 1999, respectively. In 2000 Dr. Steinhäuser completed a residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at the Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Sacaton, AZ, on the Gila River Indian Reservation. She earned the distinction of Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry that same year. She completed a Masters in Clinical Vision Research in 2021 from NOVA Southeastern University.
Dr. Steinhäuser is a past president of the Arizona Optometric Association and currently serves as continuing education chair. She has participated in multiple clinical studies, is published, and has lectured on the topics of glaucoma and retinal disease. She serves as chief medical editor for the Optometric Physician e-journal. She was ranked in Newsweek’s America’s Best Eye Doctors in 2021, 2022 & 2023.
