New full-range IOL shows promising real-world outcomes for spectacle independence

A new full-range intraocular lens (IOL) effectively delivers clear vision across all distances with high rates of spectacle independence and minimal visual disturbances, making it a promising option for patients seeking freedom from glasses after cataract surgery, according to a poster presented at Academy 2024.

In a retrospective review, data from 96 patients who underwent bilateral implantation at 15 U.S. sites were analyzed. Visual performance metrics, including monocular and binocular distance acuity, near visual acuity, and refractive error, were collected preoperatively and at a 1-month postoperative follow-up.

The IOL delivered near-perfect vision, with an average binocular uncorrected distance acuity of 20/20. Furthermore, 89.6% of patients reported little to no visual disturbances, and 92.7% achieved spectacle-free vision post-surgery. Only 3.6% required corrective lenses, highlighting the lens’s ability to maintain clear, independent vision.

These results underscore the potential of this IOL to enhance patient satisfaction with minimal dysphotopsias.
