Daily disposable lenses reduce overall aberrations but differ in effects on higher-order distortions

Posted on

Acuvue Oasys 1-Day and Precision 1 daily disposable contact lenses reduce overall wavefront aberrations in young myopic patients; however, each may slightly increase different higher-order aberrations, with no significant difference overall between the two lenses, according to a study.

The small comparative study evaluated 17 young adults with myopia but no astigmatism fitted with Acuvue Oasys with HydraLuxe 1-Day lenses in one eye and Precision 1 lenses in the other. Aberrations were measured before lens wear and again after 60 minutes.

Both lens types reduced total wavefront aberrations. However, Acuvue Oasys lenses were associated with a significant increase in trefoil aberrations, while Precision 1 lenses showed a significant rise in tilt aberrations. Despite these differences, there were no statistically significant distinctions between the lens types when comparing overall aberration changes.

Researchers concluded that while both lenses effectively improved overall optical performance, they may differently influence certain higher-order aberrations in young myopic wearers.
