Aspirin use linked to higher risk of early and dry AMD in genetic analysis

Genetic evidence suggests that aspirin use is associated with a higher risk of early and dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), according to a Mendelian randomization study.

The analysis showed that aspirin use was associated with a higher risk of both early and dry AMD. Further mediation analyses found that aspirin use was linked to lower serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and higher serum apolipoprotein A1 (APOA1) concentrations, both of which were associated with increased AMD risk.

When researchers adjusted for LDL-C and APOA1 in multivariable analyses, the association between aspirin use and AMD was no longer statistically significant.
