Cognitive function and comorbidity linked to different glaucoma medication adherence barriers
Lower cognitive function was associated with knowledge-related barriers to glaucoma medication adherence, while a greater burden of comorbidities was linked to difficulties with eye drop instillation, according to a study.
Researchers analyzed data from 187 consecutive patients with glaucoma who underwent a comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) and completed the Shimane University Glaucoma Eye Drop Adherence Questionnaire (SU-GAQ).
Lower Mini-Cog scores were linked to more knowledge-related adherence problems and higher overall questionnaire scores, even after adjusting for other factors. Higher Age-Adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index scores were associated with higher Technique-domain scores and remained significant after adjustment. G8 scores were not significantly associated with questionnaire outcomes.
