Study identifies key factors behind missed retina clinic appointments
A recent cross-sectional study highlighted the importance of patient demographics and appointment characteristics in predicting no-shows at a retina subspecialty practice.
Researchers analyzed data from over 14,000 appointments scheduled between September 2020 and September 2021 and found a no-show rate of 5.5%.
The study found that younger patients were significantly more likely to miss appointments compared to older age groups. Men also had a higher likelihood of missing appointments than women. Other contributing factors included fall scheduling, morning appointment times, and specific visit types, particularly 6-month follow-ups, new patient referrals, and returning re-referrals.
