New protocol enhances corneal sensitivity testing in eye care

Combining 0.05% cyclosporine A (CsA) with high-potency steroids significantly improves both the signs and symptoms of severe dry eye disease (DED) more effectively than using CsA alone, without increasing the risk of serious complications, according to a study.

The retrospective analysis included 93 patients, with 27 receiving the dual therapy and 66 treated with CsA alone.

Results indicated that patients treated with both CsA and high-potency steroids experienced significant improvements in their symptoms and signs of DED compared to those who received CsA alone. The dual therapy group showed progressive improvement, while the monotherapy group saw no significant changes in signs.

The study also found that the combination therapy did not increase the risk of complications such as glaucoma or cataract formation.
