Comparative study evaluates IR-Pilo and Vuity for presbyopia management

Posted on

Pilocarpine eye drop 1.25% analogue (IR- Pilo) and Vuity eye drops are safe and effective for improving near vision in presbyopic patients, with IR-Pilo showing slightly greater benefits in accommodation and pupil constriction, according to a study.

The non-randomized comparative study included 75 participants aged 40 to 60, with one eye receiving either IR-Pilo (n = 45) or Vuity (n = 30) with the other eye served a control.

Results showed that both treatments significantly improved near vision (P < 0.001), with IR-Pilo demonstrating a stronger effect (4 vs 2.3). Both eye drops increased pupil constriction and amplitude of accommodation, though IR-Pilo had a greater impact. Distance vision remained stable, with only a minor myopic shift in the Vuity group. Intraocular pressure was unaffected, and no significant adverse effects were observed.
