Cenegermin improves corneal healing in moderate to severe neurotrophic keratitis
Topical cenegermin significantly improved corneal healing in adults with moderate to severe neurotrophic keratitis (NK) compared with vehicle, according to a study.
The analysis included 2 randomized, double-masked, vehicle-controlled trials involving 148 adults with stage 2 or 3 NK.
At 8 weeks, patients treated with cenegermin were nearly twice as likely to achieve complete corneal healing as those who received vehicle (P = 0.0001). Complete healing occurred in 72.6% of patients treated with cenegermin compared with 38.7% of those in the vehicle group.
The review found no significant difference in the risk of adverse events between treatment groups (P = 0.80).
