Contact Lenses

Daily disposable lenses do not alter repeatability of lipid layer thickness measurements

Posted on

LipiView interferometer provides moderately repeatable lipid layer thickness (LLT) measurements during daily disposable contact lens wear, but LLT does not significantly correlate with ocular comfort, regardless of the lens type, according to a study.

The prospective study included 20 patients who wore either Somofilcon A and Verofilcon A daily disposable CLs in a crossover design, switching lenses after 1 month. Lipid layer thickness were recorded after at least 6 hours of lens wear. Ocular comfort was assessed using the Contact Lens Dry Eye Questionnaire-8 (CLDEQ-8).

At baseline, repeatability of LLT measurements ranged from poor to moderate. After CL wear, repeatability improved to moderate levels, though variability in the data also increased. Differences in LLT measurements between the lens types were not significant, and no correlation was found between LLT and comfort scores across all conditions.
